Pt100 sensors are the most common type of platinum resistance thermometer. Often resistance thermometers are generally called Pt100 sensors, even though in reality they may not be the Pt100 type. A resistance thermometer is a type of temperature sensor. It consists of an element that uses resistance to measure temperature. Often platinum is used for the element which is the reason why they are often called platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs).
The main benefits of an RTD sensor (Pt100, Pt1000) is the good accuracy over a fairly wide range and combined with excellent stability, this is in contrast to a thermocouple which is less accurate, less stable and can drift over time.
